I can hear audio through the headset when I plug it into the headphone jack. However, the microphone that is built into the headset is not recognized or will not pick up any sound. In the recording devices section in the sound settings on Windows 10, the bar wont even move up, and the default is labeled as "Realtek HD Audio". The headset is the same within the playback section, but it still works.

Yes. Should i buy an actual desk mic or something to plug into the pink mic jack and use?

You could do that out check first in the Realtek control panel if it's volume is up all the way and set as default recording device.
Properly installed and working driver should also have other options in it like Noise suppression etc. Next to volume there should be an icon for Mute and microphone boost.

This issue is that my headset only has plug in thingy. So, I need to choose to plug it into either the mic or the headphones jack. If I plug it into the headphones jack, I get sound but no mic. If I plug it into the mic jack, i get absolutely nothing...not even the mic. I think RealTek is only recognizing my device as a headset and is not recognizing that it is a 2 in 1 headset and microphone.
