I built my budget gaming pc last month (specs below), I'm finding I get a lot of screen tearing (without v-sync) or slow down (with v-sync enabled) on games such as Doom, Everybody's Gone to the Rapture and Crysis 3. I've just seen a really good deal on an asus strix gtx 970 in pc world and wondered if that would solve my problems...

AsRock Extreme4
i3 6100 3.7Ghz
Asus Strix R9 380 2Gb
8Gb DDR4 Corsair 2666Mhz RAM
EVGA GS Supernova PSU 550W
Samsung 850 evo 500gb
Windows 10 Pro

I have had a 970 since it came out. I was upgrading from a 680 and I was not impressed. Although it is quite a bit better than your 380, I would suggest that you save your money instead of buying more disappointment and go for a more future proof card, or maybe save a little more, sell your card and grab a 1070 (or a used 980ti since its cheaper and faster).

To directly answer your question, yes my EVGA FTW 970 GTX does play Doom on max settings at 1080p without screen tearing, but I do have an i7 and 16 gig ram so keep that in mind as well.
