I'm trying to come up with a decent build for VR gaming but I'm not sure what to invest in as I want to build something I can easily upgrade if needed.

I'm looking for:
* ATX Mid to Full (I prefer full towers/Modern Style)
* Nvidia GPU (I was thinking a 1070 and I could SLI when games start to support it)
* Intel Processor
* Can run the VIVE
* I already have a keyboard, mouse, monitors, and I'm not including the cost of the VIVE.
* I want the machine to be quiet if at all possible so I need a well cooled GPU and CPU.
* I don't plan to overclock but I'd like the option to.
* I use Photoshop and video editing software (RAM hungry)
* Monitor setup: 2X BenQ Gaming XL2720Z Black 27" LED 1ms (GTG)
* Budget: $1500

I appreciate any help you guys can offer. I'm not new to building PCs but I haven't been tracking the hardware lately so I don't know what has issues and I've looked at the top VR builds and I feel those are overkill unless you want the PC to be good for the next 7+ years.

Personally I believe in get the most powerful card within your budget. SLI isn't dying nor is it meant fir extreme-high-setups. It's making its way to VR anyway so I wouldn't count it out. I think that the idea is that by the time you'd be considering getting a second card you would have $600 available.

This should suit your needs perfectly. You can upgrade to 1080 SLI if you want, but SLI seems to be on its way out.

Wouldn't a 1070 be more future proof so eventually I could run it in SLI than investing another 200 into a 1080 and spending another 600 down the road to have SLI for when VR games can utilize the SLI technology?

But SLI isn't looking like its got a bright future ATM. I still stand by my 1080 choice as you may not even NEED that power.

Sorry to keep asking questions but what article or news indicates that SLI may be on the way out? I would like to see why they plan to do away with it.

SLI is really only meant for extreme-high-end setups. You will always get more performance out of a single, faster card than two of lesser power.
