Do I need to format a HDD dedicated to gaming files?

Hi everyone.

I've got two hard drives at present: an SSD (for windows only) and a HDD (for games, photoshop and other programs) and I'm just a little curious as to whether I'll need to format the HDD when switching from an AMD setup to an Intel one?

Thanks in advance!

Hey there, @clemo85!

It really depends. If you are changing the whole motherboard, you will definitely need a freshi install of Windows with a new activation code, since the OS is tied to the motherboard. This will most probably require you to re-install the software on the secondary HDD as well. Otherwise you will face a lot of issues with the loading times and software performance/launching. I'd still recommend backing up your data somewhere off-site before proceeding with the hardware upgrade. Starting from scratch and re-downloading will cause a lot less headaches in my opinion.

Good luck, though.

Thanks for the quick responses guys! :) I'll give both of my drives a format so they both have a fresh start and to prevent any inssues I might have!

Thanks again!
