I have a 6 year old Toshiba x505 laptop. It has a 64GB Toshiba OEM SSD for boot up and another 500GB HDD for storage. I was in the process of cleaning it up and decided to just start from scratch and reinstall Win 7 Home with Recovery Media provided by Toshiba. I am not looking to do a clean install of Win 7, maybe later down the road.

I have read, on this forum, that doing a secure erase on an ssd will make it fresh-out-of-the-box state or condition. Considering the laptop is 6 years old I thought it would be a good idea. Maybe I get a little boost back, maybe not.
The drive is a Toshiba OEM SSD and Toshiba Storage Utility Program is not compatible with thier OEM drives. Nor could I find another program from Toshiba to perform secure erase.

I did make a Parted Magic bootable usb drive. I can get the laptop to boot and load but when I get to the desktop the graphics on the screen are all scrambled. I tried to manually change different graphic settings, using the onboard graphics and descreet nvidia graphics with absolutely no luck. I used the latest Parted Magic Free ISO 8-01-13. I could buy the newest version for $9, but It may not work either. The Parted Magic version is 3 years younger then my laptop.

Are there any suggestion for a usb bootable program to do perform a secure and erase procudure on the SSD?

Solution
You can use dban boot n nuke to do a secure erase, but it's not really needed for just doing a re-installation if you are not selling the system.

I don't think doing a secure wipe will help with restoring any lost speed.

I was finally able to get Parted Magic to work. Thanks for the suggestion though.
