Program to test cpu?

Just built my first pc and I want to test the cpu, what program should I use to make sure the chip is fine.

first thing i check is cpu temperature so either in the bios though that will be slightly different from in windows

or if its intel i use core temp in windows

A new CPU works or it does not.
The easy thing to use is memtest86+
It boots from a usb stick and exercises the ram.

well how do you test if your oc is stable once i put a OC on it?

I do not know what you mean by recursive fault.
Memtest boots with it's own control program(no windows, Linux, etc)
It reads and writes different patterns of data to all the ram.
In doing so, the cpu needs to be used so if memtest runs, you have a good start.

Now if you are overclocking, I like to stress test with occt.
It uses more normal instructions than prime95.
