Something in my PC is failing but I'm not 100% what it is.

For about a month bow while playing most games from Fallout to Minecraft to Need for speed or just some Indie games my PC has been having stutters where the whole game will go from a solid 60FPS to 0-2 and it will jump about, freeze then jump and then as if it never happened it will returned to 60FPS and keep on running smooth until it happens again, It's been happening more as time goes on but mainly 0-2 times a day.

I've checked my CPU and GPU use when the game goes mental and I've found my heats are normal (CPU:20-40: Water cooled) (GPU 34 idle - 60-80 used) and my CPU usage goes to 100% and locks there till the game sorts itself out (GPU is normally at 99% use when a game runs so).

Temps are low for both CPU and GPU, Airflow is fine and the PC itself is right by an open windows with fresh air always blowing in, PC is clean, Fans and filters are clean.

Let's see what more can I say to help...........I'm on Windows 10 latest update, CPU and GPU aren't overclocked, That self overclock in the motherboard BIOS is disabled, Sometimes my GPU will crash but that is when I set graphics to high or it just has a derp moment.....Also sometimes (Garrys mod so far) My screens will lock on a black screen and the PC will of totally frozen and my PC specs are:

Motherboard ASUS crosshair V Formula - Z
CPU: AMD 8530 black edition
GPU: MSI geforce 760 afterburner 2GB
RAM: 2x4GB 1666MHZ Corsiar vengence - 2x4GB hyperX 1666MHZ
Yes I'm aware that normally 2 differant sticks of RAM can be an issue but I've been through that and that is not to blame (Been using double RAM for maybe 2 years now so)
HDD: 1TB SSHD (software) - 250GB HDD(Games)
Duel monitors

Any and all advice will be polity revived, I have a plan to upgrade to Intel I7 but any chance to prolong life or sort the issue is still wanted as well I can keep these old parts and upgrade the misses PC.

Sounds like VRM throttling as you have stripped airflow when going with Liquid cooling. Actively cool this area to avoid further damage. These are the modules to west and north of your CPU.

A "Gefore afterburner 2Gb" is not a GPU. Please re-check and let us know which one you have.

I ment MSI Gefore 760 Afterburner, Also I'm not sure what you mean about the modules to the north and west of the CPU, I have added a picture:

Also I've had a look at my Mothboards temps while it goes laggy, It's 30.c while on games and is 27.c while idle

You're taking the directly from MSI afterburner aren't you :)

The VRM's are under the black and red heatsinks to the west and north of your CPU. These control voltage regulation. They need airflow or they will roast like an egg on a California sidewalk.

Usually, the airflow is provided by your air-cooler on the CPU, however, you have switched to liquid cooling and have removed this airflow. The 8350 is a 125watt CPU that can spike to 150. The VRM's get very hot as a result of this.

With all of this being said, I hope you have reformatted the computer to rule out software/operating system causing arbitrary CPU usage.

Well you learn somethin new every day, I was aware of those heatsinks but I paid little attention to them as this is the first board I've had with those sinks on it, Would you be able to suggest something that I can attach to the board to keep that cool (Not a desk fan) or would you suggest a new board all together as it's had the liquid cooling for about 8 months or so, so if it's failing now It might be damaged from the heat.

All I know about the GPU is from the box it says MSI afterburner GeForce 760 :p I know about MSI afterburner the overclocker which I use to config my GPU fan.

When Windows 10 came out this PC had a full format and fresh OS install, No parts have been upgraded since then, If that helps.

My bad Scott. I've never heard of an Afterburner GPU from MSI before so it threw me off!.

I used a small CPU fan. I believe it was the one that come with the stock cooler actually. I used zip-ties to support it. Be creative.

I've also seen a 120mm fan placed "diagonally", so it's a diamond instead of a square. This allows it to fit between the back of the case and the cooler block. Covers more surface area vertically as well.

On a side note, I can see your cooler block is not alligned properly. You should remove it and get it straight. While tightening it down keep checking the orientation of it.

Yes I'm aware of the block being a tad ascue but I have tried moving it but it always seem's to move and tbh I'm a little spooked by heavily tightening the screws because well....I don't wana tighten to much and bust the board :p

Well I certainly am creative so I'm sure I can think of something there with my spare fans :p Might at least add some life to it before it decides to die if it is damaged.

About a new board however, Would you suggest it ? The board itself is good but the CPU is getting on a bit in the way of being out classed over the years and it's about time I went to Intel I7 for my video rendering, ect.

Maybe I can get a board that has one of those Micro fans on that area with the sinks :p I have seen them but never got one because money xD

Also a big thanks to all your help so far :D

Yeah the cooler bothers me more than in it's an actual issue. I'm not even O.C.D either, not sure what's up. Lol.

In regards to upgrading that's a tough one and I'm in the same boat. I was going to i7 as well, but with AMD's new Zen just around the corner, and benchmarks showing them competing with the latest generation Intel's, I think I might wait for that release.

I definitely wouldn't replace the board you have. It's one of the best on the market.

The FX series is doing me good still. I just have to take extra measures to keep things in check. But I like to tinker so I'm cool with that. Sounds like you do too!

No problem man good luck with your setup.

Ah yes, The AMD Zen, I've been excited about that but I'm not 100% on if I want it and I'll have to replace the board then anyway, I'm sure that this board won't be compatible with the Zen, I'll keep my upgrades dormant for awhile longer till I see more on the Zen, If not then it's Intel time.

Well I have installed a 80mm CPU stick fan to fan the heatsinks and I've had 2 lag spikes, No idea if it will still happen or if it was ment to stop but I was hoping it would of stopped :p Ah well it's old after all.
