GTX 1070 Crashes PC When Gaming

I upgraded the gpu in my Alienware X51 R3 to a GTX 1070 knowing it was fully possible. after installation any game i try to play will instantly crash my pc or force a resart without an error message. I have the latest driver downloaded and I think i installed it correctly. Can anybody help me out here? Is anyone experiencing the same problem?

UPDATE

in the past i followed a youtube video to help speed up my computer. could any of these settings have ruined my graphics card?

Either A. Your computer doesn't take in enough power to handle it or B. its a defective GPU. As a side note, I read that the Alienware X51 R3 supports up to a 970 on the seller's website, so that might be an issue.

But the 970 consumes more power than the 1070

I was just saying what the Dell website says + the 1070 consumes more power at least with the models and manufacturers I'm looking at.

I keep up with my windows updates so probably yes. But my computer hasn't crashed once before I upgraded my gpu, now it crashes as soon as the game becomes playable or 30 seconds after playing.

my old gpu was a gtx 745 and i didnt uninstall any old drivers

I have 2 drivers,
Intel(R) HD Graphics 530
and
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070
