hi,

a while ago i got a samsung 840 evo ssd 500gb and used the samsung migration tool to transfer windows 10 to my new ssd hard drive.
everything worked fine.
i built a new computer and decided to get rid of the old hard drive that used to have windows 10. now my computer won't boot from my ssd. it shows on the sata devices list but not i the boot manager.
i reinstalled my, now empty, old hard drive and windows starts...
when i look in the disk management utility, it shows my ssd with 2 partitions, the first: healthy(boot, page file, crash dump, primary partition) and the second: healthy (recovery partition). and on my old hard drive, there are 3 partitions: recovery, EFI system partition and primary partition.
how can i boot from the ssd and get rid of the old hard drive?

after searching forums, it seems that i need a EFI system partition on the SSD.

i created one with command prompt using this:

diskpart
list disk
select disk # Note: Select the disk where you want to add the EFI System partition.
list partition
select partition # Note: Select the Windows OS partition (# number) or your data partition.
shrink desired=100
create partition efi size=100
format quick fs=fat32
assign letter=s
list partition
list volume Note: Note the volume letter where the Windows OS is installed.
exit

when i then type :

bcdboot X:\windows /s S:
Note: Replace "X" with the volume letter of the Windows OS partition.

i get a "failure when attempting to copy boot files.... why?

Solution
No shit, you never installed windows in the first place!

Just reinstall windows like a normal person and you won't have any issues
