I have bought a Xeon X5450 yesterday and I don't know which microprocessors I have to choose because when my computer is booting I can see G31M-ES2C F6 but for example CPU-Z shows me G31M-S2C and I have a mindfuck. Motherboard model name is written on motherboard itself also.
BTW - with microprocessor people usually understand CPU. What you wanted is microcode.

Many LGA775 motherboards simply do not work with 771 Xeons. I tried it with mine, years ago, and couldn't get it to boot, so I sold the Xeon again on eBay, sold the motherboard, and moved up to a newer Intel platform. Chances are it won't work. I probably don't need to ask, but you have one of the 771->775 adapter stickers installed?
