Thinking about upgrading to Skylake since my cpu is a bit slow atm.

So, as the title says i'd like to hear your thoughts on this upgrade.
I have a MSI 760 graphics card
Asus Z77 Pro 3 motherboard
and a Intel i5-2500
I've tried searching for a 2nd hand 2500k and overclock it, but where i live its impossible to get, believe me, i've tried everything.
So im thinking of upgrading to a Asus Z170-E motherboard and a Intel i5-6600k. Is it worth the upgrade?

I think right now the biggest thing holding you back is the graphics card. Consider something like an r9 480 or gtx 1060.

It may depend on the games you're playing but the 760 is an aging mid grade gpu. Eventually a cpu upgrade may help, otherwise you'll have invested roughly $350+ by the time you get a new i5, new lga1151 motherboard, ddr4 ram and reinstall windows. When it's all said and done you'll still be stuck at gtx 760 gaming performance.

If gaming isn't the priority and you're doing other tasks (would help to know what type), the cpu could be the better way to go. Here's a comparison of an i5 2500k (same speed as a stock 2500) vs an i5 6600. Not much difference...

If you do any content creation work besides gaming, yes this is worth it the upgrade. Otherwise, if you only game, you should go for an i5-6500, it's cheaper and has lower TDP, better performance for your buck.

First of all, thanks for the response. But yeah, the majority of the time i just game, so im guessing upgrading my graphics card should be the priority.
