Hi, I am looking for a new internal hard drive for my dell xps 15 L520X laptop, my older hard disk is failing and I have tested the it with disk checking software which showed me that it is corrupt.

I have taken the backup of data and i wanted to replace the hard drive by myself at home, Could anyone please suggest me which one should i purchase.

I am not aware if it is possible to replace the old hard drive with any of new one, or if it depends on the motherboard for compatibility.

I live in india and my buget is around INR. 5000 or 75$, I would really appreciate if anyone post a link to purchaseing the disk online, Also if possible then please suggest the hard drives which are avaliable in india.

Hey there, saket_mankar.

When it comes to compatibility, every drive with a form factor of 2.5" will do as long, as it's not wider than 9.5mm (don't worry most of them are 9.5mm or less). The other thing is the SATA interface, but it's backwards compatible, so even if your laptop is using an older revision (version) like SATA II instead of SATA III, it will still work just as well with a SATA III drive.

If you decide to go with a WD drive, you could check out the WD Blue Mobile HDD. It's a regular usage drive with 2-years limited warranty. Its 1TB model should fit your budget, but I think you'll have to check a reseller/vendor in India as you won't be able to order it directly from the website. Anyway if you decide to check it out...

By the way, if your laptop is still under warranty, you should consider getting it touch with the vendor you got it from in order to get your drive replaced.

Let me know if you have any questions.
