My pc freezes and the screen is displaying white lines and boxes. Sometimes it bluescreens with different errors and sometimes it just turns black.

When I restart it, the boxes And black screen are still on the screen even in the bios before loading any drivers. Restarting multiple times sometimes let's it boot up normally.

I updated the driver and reinstalled it. Tried to run GTA V and boom. Freeze and crash again. Switched to the integrated Gpu and it boots up fine. Download and run Gpu test and it crashes again under about 5 seconds of load.

My Gpu is gigabyte Nvidia 780ti. Warranty expires in December. It has been running very well the past 2 years and it randomly started about an hour ago. What may be the problem with my pc? Is the Gpu dead? It still works on normal loads but crashes when stressed. Would it be a power problem? (It worked 3 years just fine so how

Solution
Something silly like a loose GPU can cause those sort of graphical artifacts on screen (I've had that happen before, a retaining screw was loose). So the first thing to do is reseat GPU just to eliminate that possibility.

You mention bluescreens but not the error messages which often accompany them. The information they contain could be useful, and for those who know their stuff, the dmp files might help too.

The behaviour you describe though suggests something else, to which I'm leaning towards the GPU is failing. Can you get a temperature monitor to check the GPU temperatures.

I did try reseat the Gpu a few times. Changed slots on the motherboard but no difference.

I had about 4 different bluescreen messages. One was "driver_irql_not_less_or_equal" the other was "video_tdr_failure"
And the last one I remember is "Video_scheduler_internal_error". I did check my device manager for any problems but it days the Gpu is working correctly. Isn't it weird it causes multiple errors? I haven't checked the dump files though. I'll Google how to do that after this post.

I switched to igpu and tried to run a stress test, it crashes after a few seconds and the max temperature recorded was 65c which is normal I guess? The fan is spinning normally.

I was only able to open one dump file.

Bug check code: 0x00000119
Caused by driver: watchdog.sys
Caused by address: watchdog.sys+3c3d

I used msi after burner to down clock the memory and core, revved up the fan and reran a stress test. It lasted about a minute and white boxes filed the screen and it crashed once again.

It sucks. I was going to sell my pc in a few days and this happens

Dumps have to be zipped up and posted onto a host accessible to the general public, eg. file sharing site, or OneDrive (and Google Drive) with the file to be shared with others.

Temperature doesn't sound excessive to me, though I'm not too familiar with Intel CPUs.

Multiple blue screens isn't odd. Last weekend I had about six different blue screens and couldn't resolve the issue using the simple methods. Drivers can just corrupt with no explicable reason.

See if any of the following are of any help with the blue screens:

IRQL not equal or less: http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch001143.htm

video tdr failure: http://www.reviversoft.com/blog/2012/12/video-tdr-failure/

What is common is they all point to a GPU related issue. Given what you've mentioned so far, I still suspect an overheating GPU. If you can, keep an eye on the temperatures it reaches under heavy load.

You may need to clean install the graphics driver: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/faq/id-2767677/clean-graphics-driver-install-windows.html

Hai, so the multiple blue screens was due to the ram clocked at 2000mhz (corsair dominator platinum 1866) the slight over clock was causing problems. I noticed Google Chrome pages kept crashing, sfc/scannow also kept crashing midway. So I dropped the ram speed to stock and the system has been stable now. Thanks for your help

I tried reconnecting the Gpu and still same problem. From the moment it boots there display is distorted and once it passes the windows loading screen it stays black. Multiple restarts now do not fix the problem.

However I booted on igpu with the Gpu plugged in and used Gpu stress test to test it once again, the temperature on load stays below 65, the fan is running normally (I even set it at max rpm) and it crashed about a minute into the stress test. I clean installed the drivers and even used multiple programs to clean the system and reinstalled but still get crashes, I don't think it's heating up because the temp well below 65.. I'm almost certain the Gpu is dead, I'm guessing the Vram is damaged causing the distorted lines?

Anyway my warranty expires in 3 months so I'll take it back to the seller today. Will update you. Thanks alot, you were very helpful
