I'm trying to setup my Ethernet wall ports that have been in my house forever and im running into a lot of difficulties. I'm just so confused I found the central hub of where the ports meet and the cable that runs from my modem to the hub goes into this really weird panel but it has no Ethernet ports and turns into this really weird thing. Here are the images of what it leads into

Cable Wires (not the problem I don't think I just want the Ethernet ports)

This is what happens to the cable when it "plugs in" to the weird panel

After cable goes into the panel it turns into that wire on the left that goes into that box which slowly has some wire come out of it and disappears into the ceiling and I cant follow it...

I have a switch ready with the other ones wired but the one that's supposed to be the input from the modem turns into this craziness! Please Help!

That is all for telephone. You need to check the jacks in the rooms and see if they are rj11 or rj45 If they are rj11 you have lots more work to do.

Next I can't tell if those are 2 pair or 4 pair cables. If they are only 2 pair you are going to be limited to 100m. Even then if the cable is not cat5 you may have issues. Older phone cable used to use cat3.

In any case you need to just cut the wires off and either put rj45 plugs on the cable or buy a different patch panel used ethernet.

Okay cool thank you that's definitely a start

Hi

When 10 mb networks were common and people used hubs not switches you could run two connections over cat 3 wiring 2 pairs per connection

Once 100 mb ethernet and switches became common you need all 8 wires 4 pairs for each cable

Telephone socket & plugs rj 11 have 6 pins while ethernet rj45 have 8 pins

It seems you will have to start again re wiring the house.

Also consider sending ethernet over power line adapters or wireless and wireless repeaters or wireless at the end of power line adapters

Then I am confused due to if that is for telephones which makes sense, the cable was previously labeled for family Computer East (side of my house) and our only pc but that one didn't go into a cat5 it went into what looks like a telephone input line like the slot on the bottom of this image

we have these all over the house, my parents built an addition onto our house roughly 15 years ago and these were added over the house along with the new upstairs but if what I previously showed wasn't the hub, what is?
This is all i have downstairs. Where I thought the hub was, and it isn't in any closets anywhere.
I should also point out the blue is labeled as a cat 5e and has a grey wire attached to it

The wires on the ground have labels of the rooms that have them. Are the black ones not just for the TV Cable?

If it means rewiring then I may just use some Powerlines I have looked into those but wanted to see if I could fix it first.

Hi

I guess the plate with round connector for cable tv , rj45 for network and rj11 for telephone

Black cables for cable tv

Try a few rj45 ethernet ports and see if you can get a connection at 10 mb
Which may be acceptable if you have a slow internet connection and you only use the ethernet for the internet for simple browsing and email, and no internal file sharing or streaming

This signals that the computer was hooked up to DSL via this PHONE landline jack. There was no network, just straight OUTSIDE ---> RJ11 (DSL) ---> MODEM/COMPUTER.

And you are not able to get more history of this wirings from parents?

By the questions you are not asking and reacting what is already been said, I sense you are not equipped to fix what's already there.

My guess is you have 3 sets of wire to each jack. Coax, telephone wire, and ethernet.

It appears although its hard to tell from the color on the photo is you have 2 different color groups grey wires. Likely one set goes to phone and the other goes to ethernet.

The rj45 jack you have a close photo of is wired for 2 phone lines not ethernet.

Finding which wire goes where is going to be a challenge. If you want to be cheap a batter and a led can test wires but it tedious.

A device to place a signal on wires like this works ok. This is just a example I found quickly there are many brands.

I may have figured it out! Looking closer at the modem the Ethernet was plugged in wrong! It was in the wrong slot! Ill take a second hand look at the problem and test it out and tell you all how it goes!
