As from a few days ago, my HDD activity indicator is always on, even when i don't do anything. My system isn't slow and everything is pretty much the same as it used to be, its just that the lamp that indicates HDD activity is now constantly on. It wasn't like that at all before... would just light up, or flicker if im installing something or similar, but now it is always on... not even flickering. I tried to look under Resource monitor to see what processes are using HDD, but im just not experienced enough to see if there is a problem or not (maybe these things listed there really need to be using HDD like that and its just normal that they do). Oh and im using Windows 7 (64-bit).
Is this something to be concern about? Because i normally leave my PC on throughout the day (so its pretty much running 14-17 hours a day), so im kinda scared my HDD wont get damaged if it constantly showing that it is writing/reading something :/

Solution

I think i fixed it without running a virus scan. I didn't notice this before, but apparently my PC didn't recognize my DVD drive (it just wasn't there in MyComputer, or Device Manager). So what i did was just open the case up and kinda nudged the SATA cable a bit, to make sure its connected. And when i turned on my PC, DVD drive was listed (working), and my HDD light indicator is back to normal (off when i'm not opening anything or installing). Really strange... i don't even know how can those 2 issues be connected like that i mean i didn't even touch my HDD SATA or power cable :/.

Anyway so far so good... ill see if things will change again. I just wanted to say thank you for your reply and time that you took...

Memory consumption is around 30% (when no programs are open, then if i have FireFox/Skype open goes up to 40% or 50% even but thats it), no problems there... It was always like that for me. :/
