Is it the Router or is the Computer

So i play a lot of online games on a wired connection and when i get 500+ ping its really, really bad. So, after a game i check my pingplotter and everything past the first hop is 500 ping. Then i connected my computer directly to the modem and it was fine like 20-50 ping. Does that mean it the router or is it something else.

Modem is Thomson DCM475

Router is Cisco Linksys E2500

So the first hop (computer > gateway) is good and then everything afterwards is 500+? I would try resetting the modem back to factory defaults. Usually involves push as small switch in the back of the router and holding it for 4 or more seconds.

Then without changing any settings test again. It's possible that a setting in the router is causing issues.
