Hi i have a pata dvd rw drive and I am unable to open it.When i touch the eject button or press eject in windows it sounds like something ia blocking it. If I use a paper clip I am able to open it and as long as there is a disk in it it opens and closes just fine.Does anybody know how to get it open without the paperclip?

This will happen with older drives. What happens is the upper half of the spindle becomes magnetized over time and the tray motor is not strong enough to overcome the bond between the upper and lower parts of the spindle. You can continue to open the drive with a paper clip or you can replace the drive. Seeing as you have a quite old PATA drive your options are very limited as to internal replacement.
