My computer died a few days ago and at the time I thought it was just the psu, and when I got a new one and tested it with the 24 pin tester included with it, that worked. The psu fan spun and the optical drive would open and close but nothing else happened. nothing else made a sound, no fans spun including the psu fan. I think its a problem with the motherboard but I wanted to ask what you all thought before I go out getting a new one.

Before you will buy the new MB, test your PC like this: Bench it - Troubleshooting http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-1753671/bench-troubleshooting.html
If the PC will not boot with one stick RAM+ cpu with cooler+ onboard iGPU if your PC had one. Then it looks like the MB problem.
