Router connectivity problem

So I recently moved to a new home and switched from a 100% wireless network to a mix. Specifically, all the computers are wired up to a switch, while all the mobile devices/tablets are wireless.

My intended setup is this: ISP -> Modem -> Switch -> Router (Asus RT-N66u)

However, even though the wifi network is visible regardless of where the router is plugged in, mobile devices can only connect to the wifi when the router is connected directly to the modem.

I tried to factory reset my router but it doesn't appear to have worked since it still remembers the wifi network I set up. I am currently typing this question from my main desktop which is wired up to the switch and working perfectly.

Thanks.

The setup can only be ISP > Modem > Router > Switch.

The modem only allows one device connected directly to it. The router allows multiple devices via NAT (i.e. the single IP provided by the modem is translated to multiple private IP addresses via the router). Therefore, the switch must be connected after the router.

Okay, I swapped the switch and router, even factory reset the router.

Now I can no longer connect to the internet via my main computer. On the router's IP page, it says its connected to the internet, but it's clearly not. It can't even download the firmware update. Right now the only thing connected to the router is my main pc so I could set up the router.

I've reset everything multiple times, and it's not the ISP's problem because I was just on the internet earlier.

*EDIT: The pool server was incorrect. So now I am connected to the internet. One last thing, both the wifi and the wired network have the same network name. Why is this??
