Hello all, thanks for taking the time to read this.

So yesterday I built my first computer ever. I followed a guide and had a friend who has done two of his own lend a hand here and there. Everything went smoothly and I was able to finish in a few hours.

When the time came to start up the machine, the computer would not turn on. The case LEDs briefly flash but I don't see anything (including any of the fans) start. Now, I know this is not the first time someone has posted on here and I did my best to follow some steps.

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/261145-31-perform-steps-posting-post-boot-video-problems

I followed all the applicable trouble shooting steps here with no luck. My hunch is that the power supply is not enough, but I have absolutely no evidence for that.

My specs are as follows:

AMD FX - 6300 Black Edition 3.5 ghz (non overclocked stock fan)
GTX 960
1 TB Hard Drive
4x 120 mm fans
1x optical drive
500 W 80+ psu

Any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks!

If you have an older version MB, try updating it's BIOS. Sometimes 900 series GPUs don't work on older MBs until the BIOS is updated.

Make sure your front case's panel connectors for power, etc are attached to the MB properly, something that guide does not cover.

Also make sure you hold the power on switch in long enough. Often times the sys won't start if just quickly pressing it.

Hi guys, thanks for your responses!

I'm a little embarrassed to admit this, but it turns out that the power cord from the outlet to the PSU was not plugged in correctly...
It took a pretty good amount of force to push it in once I figured out the problem. So it seems that the LEDs were getting just enough power to flicker and nothing else was.

Whoops!

It will take my ego a while to recover from that one... Thanks again.
