Specifically my computer has been having terrible drops in download speed. I'm wired straight into the mobo and modem / router thing. Usually I'm running a smooth 115 - 125 MB/S which is what I'm paying for. Lately though I'm dropping down to around 2-5 mb/s, it's really bad. There's no issues with wifi except for when we have all the devices going and the internet stops, I was told we're just using all the bandwith in that case and quick restart on the router fixes it.
Things I've tried and tested -
Ran virus scans with Malwarebytes and Windows defender
Different ethernet slot on router
Factory resetting router
Using the same cord I use on my desktop and testing it with an older laptop, I was getting 2.6 mbs, plugged it into laptop and it pulled 40 mb/s.
Uninstalled my internet drivers and reinstalled, fixed it for a bit but soon reverted to the low speeds.
When searching for a fix on my own I came across a suggestion of releasing, renewing, and flushing my DNS. Fixed it for a bit but soon enough I was back below 5mb/s.
Finally I had comcast out today, they looked at it, suggested maybe we're again flooding our bandwith too much suggested that maybe we upgrade our package.
