Non-Reference RX 480 vs Non-Reference GTX 1060?

Hello,

So, I'm looking to upgrade my MSI GTX 960 2G OC. The most significant upgrade for me for a price I can actually afford is the RX 480 or the GTX 1060. I'm sure the question of which is the best has been answered multiple times, but I want to take a different approach to that.

Considering that you can get an, let's say MSI GTX 1060 and a MSI RX 480 for a little bit under the price of a 1060, the 6 and 8GB GDDR5 versions respectively, what's the estimated amount of time these cards would stand up to the evolution of games?

I understand that the RX 480 will beat the 1060 in most DX 12 games, so because of that, would it make more sense to get one of those for future games coming out instead since they're likely to have DX 12 or even Vulcan running them instead of DX 11?

But then again, does Nvidia have any plans to release an update to make their cards play better with DX 12? Or is that a hardware issue that they can't fix with an update.

I'm planning to be running a 1440p monitor with one of these cards. I have looked around the reviews of the non-reference cards for the RX 480, and not many of them will get any performance boosts over the reference card if it is Overclocked.

Overclocking the non-reference 1060 cards does seem to increace performance by plenty.

What's going to last longer against newer games?

As a side question, I've heard bad things about the Powercolor Devil series cards. Are any of those true with the RX 480 and would that card be a viable option?

Solution
If the two cards are the same price, I would say the GTX 1060 6GB is the better choice (this coming from an AMD user). It's only really Vulcan where the 480 can outperform the 1060, and at this stage there is no guarantee it will ever become mainstream. DX 12 evens things out, but even then the 1060 still performs around the same as the 480. Given most current titles are DX 11 and probably will be for some time, you might as well get the GPU which currently runs them the best.

Fair enough. That was all I really needed to know. Thanks! (And I saw that you were one away from Graphics Card Master, not that it influenced my decision or anything)
