i just built a new system with these specs:

i5 6600k
16 gb corsair ram
msi z170 gaming m3
msi gtx 1070 gaming 8gb
650w evga power supply

everything works but the audio even after i tried downloading the drivers

Solution
what happened with extracting/installing the latest MSI audio drivers?

if it is a hardware problem, more than likely no.
if it is a software problem, which i would bet it is, definitely yes. just boot from the install media and run the install. no extra formatting steps on your part are needed.

usually that means this device is muted or disabled. what version of Windows are you using?
first try moving the volume slider in the taskbar all the way to 100% volume.
if that doesn't work:

go to Control Panel > Sound
find your default audio device(speakers, headphone, etc) in the window that appears
right-click on it and try selecting "Set As Default Device".
click apply & okay.
you may need to restart system afterwards.

let me know what results you get.

im using windows 7 ultimate. Right now i dont even have the option to move the slider all the way up to 100%. All i have is a red x and when i click on it, it says no audio device installed even though i downloaded all the drivers from the msi cd

you didn't state what result you got when trying to enable your default audio device through Control Panel.

and make sure you have the latest drivers.
assuming you are using Windows 7 Ult x64; updated 64 bit audio drivers: http://download.msi.com/dvr_exe/realtek_hd_audio.zip

extract and install. make sure there's no errors upon installation.

when i click on sound in control panel, it says this computer cannot play audio because the windows audio service is not enabled. And for installing the drivers, how do you extract them? Im not a tech genius ! thx

your Windows Audio Service being disabled is rather strange. that should only happen if done manually but i can't imagine you would be digging around in your Computer Management options if you don't know much about Windows.
don't really remember with Windows 7, but you should find a shortcut to Services panel located in

Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services

or the direct location "C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.msc"

scroll down to "Windows Audio" and try right-click and select Properties > Startup Type, set to "Automatic". below that click on "Start".

if this doesn't work than there is likely either a problem with the drivers or the motherboard itself.

7zip = archive creator / extractor:

doesn't take a genius though to Google ".zip files".

You either tried to install the wrong drivers or your onboard Audio is disabled in the BIOS. Rule out the latter, then
Go to Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager -> Sound, Video, Game Controller
Delete all entries
Click Scan for Hardware Changes
Locate the correct driver if prompted
