Problem with EVGA GTX 970 in SLI

So, I recently purchased a second EVGA GTX 970 FTW for my gaming PC to run in SLI. I installed the second graphics card into the proper slot, connected the SLI bridge, made sure all drivers were up to date, and the proper setting in NVIDIA control panel were selected. I also made sure that the second graphics card was detected and functioning.

Initially, when I run both graphics cards in SLI, everything runs as smooth as silk. Now, here's where things get shitty. When I shut down and start up, or restart my computer, without switching off SLI, it somehow messes with the GUI. anytime I open a drop-box its completely blank, when open the "show icons" window, the box is empty so I can't see the buttons. I can click and open other things as if they were there, it's just the graphic is not. When I open another window, buttons like "ok" and "cancel" are blank. There is also noticeable lag in the GUI. In order to set things right, I have to switch SLI off, but this is difficult because the GUI is messed up; icons are not appearing so I don't know what I'm clicking on all the time. But, once I've worked my way through NVIDIA control panel and switched of SLI everything is fine. I can even run SLI immediately after turning it off and it works fine, but I HAVE to turn it off before I shut down my computer or else I will have problems when I boot back up.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this? All drivers and software are up to date. I've tried swapping slots for the graphics cards. I ran the new one solo to see if there was something wrong with the graphics cards itself but nothing came up. I'm stumped.

Update: Removed all GPU drivers using DDU and reinstalled current drivers with no improvement. I have also tried using a different display cable with no improvement.

UPDATE 2: After messing around for a bit, I have found that if I change ANY setting, not just switching on/off SLI, from default through Nvidia Control Panel it will act as described. First time I noticed, I changed one of the image scaling settings. The second time, I changed a single setting within SLI configuration.

Here's a list of main components in my rig:
Asus X99 Deluxe
Intel i7 5820K
Corsair H110 Liquid Cooler
2 EVGA GTX 970 FTW
4 4Gb DDR4 Corsair Vengeance
Intel 730 480Gb SSD
Intel 730 240Gb SSD
EVGA 1000P2

Solution
So, I figured it out everyone. Software interference from AI Suite 3. Just needed to disable it on startup. So fucking silly, but I'm relieve. Thank you all for you're input and advice. Lol I wish is it was something a bit more technical and complex but hey, mystery solved :)

2 steps ahead with nothing to show for. FTW's do run SLI but for some reason mine are fickle bitches. They run SLI great, but when I restart without switch SLI off prior, it decides to be a fucking twat.

well like at evga forums you can see guys complaining about how NVidia is treating sli or it gets broken in some drivers or just have to jump through hoops ?

that's why I said to post there lot of sli users to help or may know something not so well known

good luck

I see your post there , figured you get a little more input then that ??

one thing is using certain platforms they have been know to have issues with newer cards like the 900 series as well may want to look in to that ? like need a new bios update to fully support the cards [out dated for them in some way ]

900 cards can be funny on some platforms like z68 as well some got support and some did not ??

7/2016 - X99-DELUXE BIOS 3301
Improve system compatibility

may need that bios for these cards ?

like I see guys say there older cards like 2 780's worked fine but there 900's don't ???

I'd make sure I got any bios later then the cards release date it may just be a compatibility issue there with any older one ??
