So a couple days ago my PC took a crap and the motherboard or gpu went out. I was just going to replace whichever one went out but I was going to upgrade anyways and decided to go ahead and do it now. The thing is I have a good case, cpu cooler, psu, DVD drive, TB memory, nocturna case fans. So basically I just want to plug in a new motherboard, cpu, gpu, and ram. I will list the parts I have below.

Case: Nzxt Phantom 410 White
Cpu Cooler: Evo 212
Psu: TS XFX 550
Storage: WD 1TB

My old parts were :
Motherboard: M5A97 R2.0
Cpu: Amd Fx 8350
Gpu: Amd R9 280x MSI
Ram: Xpg 2x 8gb

I would like to go with Intel this time if possible and hopefully it will be faster then my previous build. I built it 3 years ago. Anyways my budget is 1000$ I don't want to go over that. All help is appreciated. Sorry for no links I am typing from my phone since I have no PC right now.

I assume thins is a gaming rig?

I'd pick up a CPU, Mobo & RAM, but hold off & test if your 280X still works - that's still totally viable!

For something you can simply 'drop in' and add you 280X:

If you wanted even better performance, I'd replace the PSU also:

Yes this is a gaming rig, that first option is definitely tempting. Quick question though, I see you went for the i5 6600k instead of the i7 6700k. Do you think the 6700k not worth the $100~ dollar increase?

If you put your OS and main programs on it, your PC will boot up incredibly fast and stay fast. Since the drive has no moving mechanical parts, it's just an incredibly fast drive. Anything you put on it will perform faster than what you would have on a standard HDD.

For instance, I have my OS, Steam, Origin, GOG, uPlay, and browsers on my SSD, and my PC boots up in about 30 seconds. Everything loads quick as lightning. It's an excellent investment.

The answer I arrive at is similar to Barty, but with more $ to a MB that would allow the option for SLI the 1070.
