Hi guys. I am running into the most bizarre situation I have ever run into in the 30 years I have been working with and on PC's and I cannot figure a solution.

One of the PC's I am responsible for maintaining is acting as is the tab key is stuck. I have swapped keyboards, I have tried to do a restore and I have, to no avail, tried to use Windows Recovery. This is not happening when in BIOS. But it is happening once Windows loads, Safe mode is not an option and loading into Widows 10 without driver signatures is not helping. I decided to try and use the System Image and no luck there because of the 'tabbing' doesn't allow you to pick any option.

I have booted from disc to do a repair that way, but even when booting from a disc, the result is the same. I then decided to take the PC back to scratch and install Windows 7, but again the same thing is happening to where it keeps 'tabbing' and not allowing any selections to be made.

So, this is not happening in the when in BIOS but it is not only confined to occurring in the Windows environment on the hard drive itself but anytime you are doing anything out of the BIOS environment.

At first, I tried to address this as a virus because the owner of the PC was surfing porn sites and said he received 5 warnings before everything went kaput.

These are Dell (sigh) XPS 8500 machines 32GB Ram Intel i7 core 8 3.47ghz,

I might mention also they had bought two of these machines at the same time. The second machine JUST had a complete motherboard and CPU failure that was diagnosed by a PC shot they had taken it to during my leave of absence the past two month.

The other important note to mention is depressing CTRL pauses the 'tabbing' enough to make a selection but not enough for anything to actually work. I am at my wits end as I have never run into a situation like this since 1986, which is when I had gotten my start dealing with computers in the Navy. PLEASE HELP. One thing I do not enjoy is having my ass kicked by an inanimate object, LOL.

I have been facing something like this since the last few days. My Compaq laptop's enter key along with the delete key gave up on me. I got hold of an external keyboard with USB and things were alright until the 'k' key decided to make it's presence felt. Due to this the generic touchpad has gone into snail's pace and seldomly responds. Also it beeps irritatingly on startup now and it's the same in safe mode and even BIOS. Tried installing the PSP Keyboard driver from the device manager quite a no of time, even though getting there using the tab/arrow keys is quite a war in itself. But last night I was still trying to troubleshoot, I realized that some how pressing the ctrl key let's me use my touchpad smoothly. And I did the same old basic routines of uninstalling and deleting stuffs but to no avail. This is really frustrating. Is there anyway to completely remove the basic keyboard here.

Laptop keyboards are very temper mental. They are also easily replaced. Too often a crumb or a drop from a drink can get inside gum up the pad that lies underneath.

I never found a resolution, the people I was working for betrayed my trust, so i opted after 12 years of fixing their PC's to leave them to their own devices and pay someone triple what I got. They never listened to me and never took my advice and it was just best for me to move on with my life and not sell my soul to people who were far too willing to auction it off to the highest bidder when they were done needing it.
