G3258 won't go past 4.5GHz

Hi, so with my G3258 I try and overclock to 4.6GHz-4.7GHz, and using whatever voltage, it just doesn't post. Is there any particular reason for this? I am currently using 4.4GHz at 1.245V because 4.5@1.25V was a bit unstable and would only last about a minute on prime95.

I'm using a stock cooler and at my current setting I hit about 70C, maybe 75C at the very highest if my room heats up a lot.

Thanks :)

I'm using the MSi Z97 PC Mate. Also I'd like to note that I have previously overclocked this CPU to 4.6GHz at 1.26V but I toned it down because of temp reasons and it was a little bit unstable.

I'm guessing that, but I was using an MSi motherboard previously that cost me £30 brand new, and it could OC the chip more than this one can.

That's your chip's limit. My G3258 is actually worse. It needs 1.37V for 4.5GHz and anything higher is a fantasy. It's a chip rated for 3.2GHz, so sometimes you just get what you get.

Yea I suppose, I'm happy with my current OC but just wanted to see if there was an explanation as to why it wouldn't go any higher.
