Hi guys,

Yesterday i was rebuilding my pc with a new motherboard, processor and ram.
However when i'm currently running it i get extreme lag whether it is just using the desktop but especially on games.

my old specs were:

OS: Windows 10
CPU: i7-920
Ram: 12 GB DDR3
Mobo: Gigabyte X58A Ultra Durable 3 series
GPU: GTX 960

New Specs:

OS: Windows 10 (which for reason deactivated itself)
CPU: IntelCore i5 6600K 3.50GHz - Running at 72 °C
Ram: 8GB DDR4
Mobo: Gigabyte Z170-gaming k3 - 28 °C
GPU: GTX 960 - 26 °C

All drivers are installed and updated, would it just be the temp of my cpu causing problems?

Was your Windows OEM, if yes you need a new licence as an OEM one will be tied to the original motherboard. It also sounds like you have not reinstalled Windows, that is highly recommended when changing motherboard as you can get lots of issues if you dont.

Those temps are well within safe limits so it's not a cpu overheating problem if the max temp is 72c. A reinstall of windows as others mentioned is always a good idea, that way you make sure you're only running with necessary up to date drivers and not suffering from any driver conflicts from the previous motherboard.

Misclicked solution XD whoops.

The Windows 10 was the free upgrade from Windows 7 when it was first released. how would I go about reinstalling Windows 10 without buying another copy?

The highest my cpu has gotten to is 82 degrees.

Best Answer unselected, was not intentionally selected by OP.

Was Windows 7 an OEM copy or a retail copy? If it was OEM, the license is tied to the motherboard that you no longer possess.

82 degrees is definitely rather warm, but it's not dangerously hot.

Did you reinstall Windows after getting the new board?

Hey, it was a retail copy.
I reinstalled Windows 10 yesterday, the activate Windows seems temperamental with it being fine sometimes, then other times coming up. The error code says that there isn't a valid Windows license for my PC, even though it should be.

While reinstalling has definitely solved some of the lag it is still quite laggy, games which I was running fine on max settings prior are now struggling on lowest with the occasional jitter on the desktop and chrome.
