Greetings.

I have an AMD 8350 processor on a Gigabyte 990FX Motherboard.

I am going to overclock the processor, but had a question...

Once I overclock, is there a way without going into the BIOS to switch between the overclocked state and an idling state? Or is it locked at the accelerated speed forever?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Solution
Depending on how you implement the overclock the processors low power states will still function. For example my i5-2500k is at 4.498 GHz, but it will clock its self down to 1598 MHz when its not doing anything important.

It is possible to disable the lower power states to keep the CPU at maximum clock speed all the time, sometimes this is preferred for the most stable of over clocks.
