How well will either the ASUS RX 460 or ASUS RX 470 GPU work with the INTEL Core i7 3770 processor in a Dell Optiplex 7010 MT computer (4 core, 8 thread, 3.4 GHZ, 8Mb Smart Cache)? Will there be a bottleneck at the processor? Also, what PSU will fit in this computer case and power these GPU's? The RX 470 needs a separate power cable to power the GPU and the 460 might too from what I have been reading. The MT is a minitower and the largest case for this computer. It's not all that small really. The CPU is probably already the best one for this motherboard (Q77 chipset and FCLGA 1155 socket) from what I have read.

Thanks for your input. I will replace my PSU. Besides the one I have now seems to be failing anyway. The computer crashes and shuts down fairly frequently when playing games. I want to play "Cliffs of Dover" and one of my kids has his games to play. I also need a recommendation on the PSU's that will fit in this case, power the video cards (the AMD version of the RX470 has some high power usage) http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/amd-radeon-rx-470,4703-6.html , and work with the rest of the computer. The 470 will need a separate power cable direct from the PSU. Here is a power consumption review for the AMD version of the RX460: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/amd-radeon-rx-460,4707-5.html

I just found this (old 2013 post) at another site. This guy claimed then that the motherboard for these business computers would not accept (was not compatible with) new video cards. It may sound silly but has anyone had success upgrading these computers with new graphics cards, especially the ones I am looking at? Here is part of that other post from someone else. I hope posting it here isn't against any rules:

"Good luck. I thought I had it nailed, but it ended up being a disaster. Reason? The motherboard in the Optiplex would not support the video card. The Corsair power supply wouldn't fit properly but with a bit of modification I got it in. After all that, the video card would not work..............The bottom line is the Optiplex is not designed to be an upgradeable computer so if you can make this work I applaud you."

Yeah that could happen. If you're really desperate, there might be a cracked BIOS on the web that will support the newer cards in the Optiplex. I won't say it's safe because it isn't. But it's there if all else fails.

Seasonic makes great power supplis. Avoid Corsair's CX series and they make decent to great power supplies. EVGA does as well.

I see a Seasonic PSU that should fit.

I also see some videos with older Dell computers being upgraded (Optiplex 390 and 760), not with the video cards of course, more like GTX 750 ti or GTX 970 in an Optiplex 755 to avoid replacing the stock PSU and to be low price.

I'm just joking. If I found an optimal solution that someone else knew worked with this computer, however, I would go with that. I assume there are quite a few people with this computer who would like to update it for gaming and fast graphics before buying their next one. Then you're not a Time Lord? :??:

Per EVGA, the EVGA GTX 1060 GPU requires UEFI support.

I have contacted Dell about my system. My computer still has the original BIOS (#12) from when it was made in 2012. There have been subsequent BIOS updates through #23 which do include EFI support.

My current graphics card is the original one, an AMD Radeon HD 7470, A contact in the Tech Department told me that I could only go up to a Radeon 7570. IMO this is probably because it's a business computer and they only tested certain graphics cards and stopped testing and supporting the computer a long time ago. The person in sales I was directed to told me the newest graphics card that could be used is a 4 GB GTX 745. I believe that other people have used GTX 750 ti's in what I think were older Dell Optiplex computers.

I am now looking at a 6 GB GTX 1060 SC (Super Clocked) GPU for better cooling and more memory. The non SC versions have no cooling tubes, just one fan and a heat sink like a CPU uses.

Based on the EFI support after I update my BIOS do you guys think I can use the GTX 1060 GPU in my computer?
