Windows says that my legitimate copy of windows isn't legit

I bought my windows 7 copy about 3 months ago, and it worked without a hiccup. Today, when I changed nothing, hardware, software, or otherwise, the only thing I did was play some games on steam and watch a few videos on youtube as well as some light web browsing here and there. Now, it's saying my windows 7 copy isn't legit, even though I put in my product key and everything. I don't want to go through the measures I saw online, disabling updates and deleting this folder or another. The reason for that is I don't want to go and mess within important folders and files. I have a copy of my windows OS and the product key with me, I don't want to lose my data too, is there any way I can solve this without a clean install or going through a couple hours worth on the already long line of Windows tech department?

Solution
Double click 'my computer' on the desktop. On the top should be organize-properties - system properties. Click system properties. The page should show basic info about your pc. Top is Windows edition. Under that is system. In system, top line should be a rating from 1.0-7.9. That's the windows experience index. Click on the title. Should open up the index page. On the lower right side is 'Re-run the assessment'.

https://bargainvalley.com/, it was cheap and most people I know give it an outstanding review and such, I even searched up it's legitimacy on review websites and they said that they had great service.

Actually, I think I just fixed it, I rebooted my computer and started my boot on my copy of windows, I ran some repairs and some went to my last system restore point and everything seems to be working, do you know if this is a working solution, I checked computer properties and the "not genuine copy of windows etc. etc." is not popping up, hopefully ths works! (Knock on wood).

It sounds like you fixed it, via system repair. Good. But you did a fair amount of random stuff on the net, and could have picked up a virus that corrupted your system to cause the problem. Just a guess. So be more cautious.

Make sure you have a COA copy. If it's on your machine, great. If not, use Produkey to read it and paste it outside your machine. You may do this again, and it's necessary if you need to re-enter your COA to re-activate.

Huh, you mean like if I change my CPU then my RAM it would get this problem? Or if the power just went out for for no reason and I turn it back on?

If you change the cpu, like I did, Yes, you'll almost certainly get that error. Just run the Windows Experience again, takes a minute or so, and it'll fix the error. Sometimes unintended shutdowns can cause corrupted data, but it's usually fixed on a reboot since you are loading drivers and other info from the direct source, the actual files themselves, not the data stored/used in the ram.

I don't have the preformance info and tools in my OS, don't know why, at least not in my control panel.

It sounds like your COA Key was deactivated by Microsoft or some bad software you used off the net. Oh, you don't know what a COA is? It's a long string of letters and numbers on a Certificate of Authenticity (COA or OA) that you got with your Windows software. You can try to directly activate Windows by entering your key again. If that fails, Microsoft does not love you anymore and you have to buy a new key.

Here is how you try to activate. Click Start. Click System. Click System Properties. At the bottom, it will say, Windows is activated -- or Windows is not activated. If it says Windows is not activated, Click Enter new key. Type in the 25 characters. Windows should activate, unless your key is deactivated by Microsoft because they don't love you anymore. Then you have to buy a new key on ebay, just do it for $15 and quit suffering. If you pay money to Microsoft, they will love you again like any pro

If it says Windows is activated, then your Steam games or something else you get off the internet is interfering with your machine. That is your problem, you do it to yourself. Stop doing it and your pain will end. And our pain will end.
