I plugged my Seagate external hard drive into the eSATA/USB port on my computer that has a lightning bolt next to it and it asked me to format the disc...I know that is a nono. So I went to Seagate to check on Data Recovery. I ran the test to see if it found data and it gave me an error " The drive is experiencing too many read errors or it's performance is below acceptable for logical recovery" ?? Did I do something wrong by putting my USB cable from my external hard drive in the wrong port??? Please Help...

Hi there Rango2011,

What is the model of the drive? eSATA with a lightning bolt next to it, should be eSATA P, which I don't think it is compatible with USB. Were you able to firmly attach the USB cable to that port?

Apart from that, you can attach the drive with a different cable to another computer. In case the issue persists, you can go to Disk Management and see how the drive appears over there.

Also, you can try several different data recovery tools. There are many threads on data recovery in the community. You need to save all the recovered data on another drive.
After that, you can test the drive and see what is wrong with it: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility
