Hi im looking to build a overkill gaming pc that will last a long time, going with 1080s in sli seems to be the best but if theres another card that will get the same performance for cheaper it would be great. My budget for this build is $6500NZD including all peripherals if any one has suggestions it would be great.

The best solution for 'future proofing' (which it sounds like you're going for) is incremental upgrades over time.

There is very few reasons to justify SLI 1080s at the moment. A single 1080 makes sense (if you're playing at 1440p), with SLI 1080s making sense at 4K.

SLI is not well supported, and it's unlikely that'll change.

If a single 1080 (or even a 1070 if you're playing at 1080p) makes sense at the moment, with the option to SLI in future when prices drop.

"All peripherals"? Including a monitor?

What games are you looking to play? Resolution etc?

You're welcome. FWIW, I wouldn't spend that much though.

I'd pick up an i5-6600K, a single 1080 (maybe even a 1070) and a nice 1440p monitor - you likely wouldn't even break $4,000.
But, if you want to game at 4K with about as good FPS as is achievable today, that build will do it.

Honestly, there's negligible difference between a lot of the different models of each GPU (like a 1080).
Slight tweaks to boost clock speeds (and base), differing cooling solutions for better OC performance etc.

To me, there's no significant performance gain to justify cost (just don't go for a 'founders' / reference card, given their heat issues).
