Solution
lol no worries, the bracket is the shiny metal part of the video card. The part that attaches to the case itself. Normal or full sized is for a standard case. You have a slim case design so a low profile or shorter height bracket is needed. That's why that video card is so narrow compared to other models.

The Card Dimensions (L x H) 6.34" x 4.17"

The Tom's Hardware PSU Tier List 2.0 thread is a little outdated... Actually a lot outdated. However, it still gives users a general idea of which brands are higher and lower quality.

For a GTX 950 and a single CPU, I would recommend one of these.

OP, any power supply that can be had for $25 will be such low quality that it will probably damage your internals within a month or two. The power supply is what supplies power to the internals, and it's important that this power is steady and stable. If voltages are too high or too low, or they vary during use, then your components are likely suffering damage from the voltage input.

My brother had an incident where his hard drive failed. He only had one backup. He put that backup in the machine and that drive then failed. So I took a multimeter to the power supply to find that it was putting out almost 19V on the 12V connectors. Basically, his power supply killed two hard drives and caused him to lose all of his data, even though he had it backed up.

Please consider a higher quality power supply.

the thread is constantly updated with specifics for almost every model available and for any specific models users have any questions about. check the last 20+ pages, it is an ongoing process. the first page is not the entire thread.

That's not possible, overvoltage protection would kick in.

Assuming the overvoltage worked properly. I've personally watched two hard drives give up the magic smoke due to a PSU throwing too much juice at it. That was the point where the shop I worked at "retired" that PSU.

No it's not.

That'd probably be a case where undervoltage protection would be needed, not overvoltage. And UVP is not required like OVP is.

@Web: Well, if your PC was actually working I won't believe it. If nothing was working then I could maybe believe it.

Good to know. I'd always assumed it was the case of an over voltage issue all these years.

If you have a full sized desktop just get http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371045&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-PCPartPicker,%20LLC-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID= it will handle a gtx 950 just fine.

Also like how people went off on other stuff without recommending one yet = D

hey thanks buts its a mircotower would it work?

and is it compatible with a Hewlett-Packard 1497

So here's the deal with your system. It uses a property PSU. Part number 613764-001 if you feel like looking it up. It doesn't look like there are any higher power replacements for that PSU. So I think you're stuck with what you have.

After looking around some threads, it looks like people have managed to get a 750ti to work with your system. So it "should" work, provided you pick a model that only pulls power from the PCIe slot and not through a cable connection. There are some gtx 950 models that only go off the PCIe slots power, like this one that "might" work.

It only pulling about 15w more than the 750ti so your system might be able to handle it. I don't know what the power cap is for your model so I cant say for sure beyond a hopeful "might".

Nope, its a normal ATX PSU. You can't fit one of those in your microtower.

well whats the best 750ti ? that would work with the system?

or should i just scarp it for the cpu?

You could do as Ifkfkfkffs said and move it in to a new case and get a proper PSU. The process will cost more overall but you'll have a normal system at that point and not have to worry about proprietary stuff. Your motherboard looks like its an m-ATX motherboard so a normal case will do the trick.

what is the most stable 750ti that would work i want to compare the performance to the 950 if its not worth then ill just save up

I think for a 750ti this would be your best bet

Whatever card you put in there will have to be low profile and low power. Its a hard combo to find.

In all honesty, long term, a build in to a case you like with a good power supply will lead to a better gaming experience. When you do an eventual upgrade you can just deal with it like a normal human instead of jumping through HP's nonesense. But it is more expensive and if budget is tight... well might be eaiser to deal with the video card now and plan for an system rebuild when you can budget for it.
