I'm not tech savvy at all but recently I have been targeted by someone using a free web based ip stresser.
The person explained to me how he did it but if I did not actually know the person I would have been at the DoS'ers mercy making me feel vulnerable on the internet..

How do I protect my internet from UDP based booters, specifically <Redacted by Moderator> ?

It is would be fairly uncommon for someone to attack you for a long time. If they were actually attack your from their home network they would likely DoS themselves first because most people upload rates would be slower than your download rate. Besides you would get their IP address can could report them to their ISP. All ISP are required to have a abuse email. You just need to have the exact date and time along with the IP. They generally will monitor to see if it is true and cancel their internet service in some cases.

Real DoS attacks come from many machine normally on some form of botnet. Almost nobody has the skills to create their own so they just pay money to rent it. This is fairly expensive so you would have someone...

At a consumer level, mostly you can't.
That's like trying to prevent people from ringing your doorbell.

In the concept of a DOS, I'll hire 1,000 people (packets) to stand in line and ring your doorbell. The 3 people you want (valid traffic) just get lost in the line.

So there's absolutely nothing I can do but just get kicked off from my internet for 5 minutes at a time ? I understand that to get DoS they attacker needs my IP. Is there any way to hide it or something similar?

That's like trying to hide your house address from the mailman.
