Hi, I'm freaking out right now because I tried to overclock my gigabyte g1 gtx 1070 but shortly after I did the screen froze up and all these large pixels where on the screen and my computer was much louder then usual so I killed the power and restarted it. Now my computer is being slightly louder then it was before but seems to be running ok.

I just want to know what happened, did I destroy my GTX 1070 and if I didn't how can I overclock without that happening.

Thank you for your time.

you really can't destroy a GPU when overclocking ONLY if you are using a custom bios, or your GPU gets too Hot. assuming it was a bit too hot fans kicked in and it wasn't stable so it froze (that's very normal). As for your PC being a bit louder, that may be you just imagining it, it probably was like that. The G1 Gaming fans don't spin until they hit 60c. unless you have a custom fan curve.

I wouldn't worry much about it :) just always watch your temperatures when overclocking, even maxing out the voltage slider in afterburner is not risky as long as you keep your card cool.

Every card overclock differently, its about luck. The guide you provided can't apply to everyone's cards, it may way above your card limit, you will have to determine that your self. Download Heaven Benchmark or Valley Benchmark (both free) and use MSI Afterburner. add 100 to the memory and core and max out the power limit slider. Run the Benchmark and keep it running for a bit if no crashes happen you can add 50 to the memory and core and so on. keep adding until it crashes then roll back to the safest point.

*Every card overclocks differently, its the same with CPUs its all about luck.
