Alright, so I'm looking to make a 3 monitor setup and I need some help, my current system has an a8-6600k (upgrading soon) a GTX 960 FTW edition from EVGA (has 1 hdmi port, a DVI-I port and 3 display ports) and 8 gigs of ddr3 ram. Will this system be able to handle 3 1080p monitors? And I'm also kinda confused on how I would be able to run all 3 with only 1 hdmi and 1 dvi port?

Solution
So as long as you don't go over around 1080p you should be able to use passive adapters which are much cheaper. Also would you rather have the adapter built into the cables or just adapters(cheaper) and use your own dvi cables? Here are some adapters that should work and are fairly cheap as they are only single link DVI so around 1080p max. https://www.amazon.com/Plated-DisplayPort-Cable-Adapter-Black/dp/B00T4NVJB8/ref=sr_1_10?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1472358686&sr=1-10&keywords=dp+to+dvi

Here are some others that are dirt cheap so hard telling how well they work but for the price it might be worth taking a gamble...
You could use Display Port monitors or use adapters to be able to use the Display Ports with DVI or HDMI monitors. For desktop usage the 960 will be fine and your cpu strong enough, for surround gaming not even close in both cpu and gpu departments (even with a 960). If you want to run a high end surround gaming system I would get a Skylake i5 and a really high end video card like a GTX-1070 or higher IHO.

It depends on what you want to use your multiple monitor set for.

In general multi monitor is not THAT hard on a system for day to day stuff. Gaming is another story. I do not think the 960 is upto that without lowering settings a fair bit.

You would need a monitor on Displayport since that is the other option on your card.

Before video cards have so many outputs, they had devices that make the computer see one large monitor out of 2 or 3 others. The nice thing about that setup was it has pretty good compatibility, but it also could have issues with a single program running across all screens when maximized.

Thanks for the fast reply and sorry to bother you again, but could you link me to a good display port to hdmi adapter? im new to this stuff and i would rather not mess up. And no, i dont plan on doing surround gaming.
