Hello recently my PSU has been whining and restarting after a while. Only when I play Ark: Survival Evolved, which is a decently demanding game. My thought is the whining is from a capacitor blown, but i dont know why my PC would restart. I read a forum, and someone said
is it shutting down or rebooting? big difference between the two.

if it's shutting down the only thing you have to check is your PSU

if it's rebooting, go to system settings, start up and recovery, error reporting, uncheck "reboot on critical failure" and see what happens. if you're getting a BSOD it's either a hardware issue with one of the components or driver conflict.

But I also think it might be overheating from the capacitor whining?
I have seen a couple videos online (oh lord..) of replacing capacitors, and i think I could do it, but i dont want to void my warranty, which im sure that will void it.

You are in fact correct the whining, is indeed a sign that one of the two main capacitors of the PSU is beginning to fail.
If it gets too hot due to excessive load put on the capacitor it will heat up greatly, and when a capacitor reaches it`s rated thermal maximum operating tempreture rating it stops working normally.

So you need to replace the current unit for a new one Codi.
As the problem will only get more worse and shutdown more frequently over a shorter period of time powered up.

The two main big capacitors used in a power supply unit normally hold a very high charge from the 240v electrical ring main, if you are in the UK.

I am already in contact with Thermaltake about shipping this back to them for a new one, as i have only had this for 7 months or so.

Until then I guess i'll have to try and not put a heavy load on my PSU. Thank you.
