nukemaster :
I have been pretty luck, outside of older drives and a WDC Blank 2tb all of my drives have been fairly quiet. I do not even have hard drives on some systems anymore since all files are on a central system.
Foam sounds like it should work, just watch out for static. Many users have used foam in the past without issues, so you should be ok(the drive is grounded to the power supply as well[black wires].).
I already ordered it yesterday, should arrive next week,by the way this noise all started since I opened the front panel to check the fans, since then I'm hearing that sound and can't figure out why, maybe something's loose in there don't know.
Anyways, when I took my pc to the store to check that noise, the idiot said it was a "normal hdd sound",yeah whatever.
When I disconnect the hdds the sound disappears,at first I thought the problem was with the hdd,so I made a big mistake and quickly bought another one to check if it is indeed the problem, then when I connected the new hdd the noise was still there,I don't know what it is and it's driving my fucking nuts,I mean it's not a loud noise but it's still annoying, and I really hope the foam will eliminate the problem..
By the way I don't think it's vibrations either, the noise is still there also when I remove both side panels.
you think the foam will increase the overall temps? I'm planning to cover both side panels and some around the hdd cage, but not on the hdd itself,it's very risky and dangerous I know,I won't be covering a lot of the cage but just enough for it to make the noise stop. Is that okay? Or would it be enough to cover just the side panels and the two dvd front panel plastic slots? Thanks.
