You hear about bad ports and what not but can you even name 10 games that are over a year old and are still unplayable?

What do you mean by ports?
What do you mean by unplayable?

Do you mean unenjoyable, dated, or simply not even working?

I don't know about ports, but there are several Kickstarter or "Early Access" type games that aren't ready and may never be.

"over a year old" goes back a long way too but I guess you mean recently.

Anyway, when it comes to buying a game you could look up customer feedback on STEAM as well as online reviews, as well as look up system recommendations for CPU/GPU etc so you shouldn't have much problem ensuring it works and can at least estimate how fun it will be for you.

Again, not sure of the POINT of this but there are several, inexpensive games (some over five-years-old) in various genres that are really fun and...

BTW, a "port" IMO refers to a game that was coded for a different machine hardware that requires a significant amount of work. Such as the CPU using a different instruction set thus things need to be changed, recompiled etc as well as being modified for a different API like DirectX.

A game designed to work on the XBOX ONE or PS4 as well as PC would not be considered a port. I'm not even sure what I would call the PC version of Skyrim converted to run on the PS4 and XBOX ONE. In that case since they used the newer version of their game engine I'd probably call it a port from PC to console but there is no clear line I guess.
