my current set up is

amd fx 8350 4.0ghz 1.875v
8gb ddr3 1600mhz
extreme 4 970 board
gtx 950 2gb
500gb hdd
2 x 42 inch 60hz tvs

i have two choices and would rather do the cheapest unless theres going to be a huge perfomance diffrence so this is my daily usage,,i game at 1080p on a 60hz tv while using my second tv for tv/streams etc ,,,with a good few tabs open on chrome now the fx is brillaint for this with a little messing with cpu affenity i can give the game lets say 6 threads and stick my hd stream witch is mostly kodi/youtube or live tv and web browser on the last 2 threads i get 0 lag doing this ,,,my only issue is my board is rubbish my vrms are overheating when i run at stock voltage so its undervolter,,,please noone reccomend me an i5 because i had the 4460 before this fx and i was constatly getting either frame rate drops or my live tv would stutter or the whole thing would crash and the cpu was constantly maxxed out under multitasking with games running ....so i have £250 pound that i can either pour in to an i7 cpu and sell my fx to pay for intel motherboard or spend the money on a new motherboard and a h80/h100 and overclock this to as far as i can go ,,,,please rember im happy with the fx i just wouldnt mind lower heat output and power usage ,,,,also how much is the cheapest intel desktop i7 8 core ,,,and is the i7 qaud with ht as good as a 8 core meaning that i can run any game and have no la multitasking while gaming like i can do with fx 8350

It sounds like your FX is meeting your needs, but you don't like the heat and noise, and are worried about your motherboard. An i7 would resolve these problems.

You can pair an i7 6700 ($300) with an H110 motherboard ($50) without any problems. Moving up to a slightly more expensive H170 or B150 motherboard ($60-70) gets you 4 RAM slots. The i7 6700 cannot be overclocked, but overclocking ruins power efficiency and the 6700 is an extremely capable chip even without it.

An i7 6700K ($320) must be paired with a Z170 board ($80) to overclock, and it does not come with a cooler (so add ~$30). Overclocking will net you about 5-10% more performance at the expensive of increased noise and heat.

Be aware that Skylake requires DDR4, but also...

Well getting an i7 along with a good motherboards would be in the 300-400 pounds. At 1080p, an i7 wouldn't be fully utilised and would yield limited benefits. With 250 pounds, you can get a very good motherboards along with an excellent cooler.

In the end, its maybe better performance for 300 plus pounds, or surely higher clocks with a kickass cooler for something like 180 pounds.
