Wireless mouse/keyboard (Microsoft 1000) gone haywire after system overhaul

Hello,

I have a Microsoft Wireless 1000 Keyboard/Mouse combo which use the same receiver.
I had previously had an AM3 Gigabyte board with an AMD II X2 240 processor, and I was using the front panel for the USB receiver. Everything went fine for quite a few years.

I did a system overhaul two weeks ago, and now I'm using these:
Zalman ZM500-LX, 500 W, ATX 2.31 as PSU (was using a Raidmax before)
MSI H110m pro-vd Motherboard
Intel i5 6600 Processor

I initially tried to use the rear panel, and noticed that the mouse was laggy, so I figured that maybe the signal is not getting through correctly, and I put the receiver back into the front panel, as before. There is a definite improvement, but my mouse and keyboard are nowhere near as reliable as before!

The mouse jerks, stutters when trying to move quickly, even stops operating for fractions of a second, the keyboard hiccups sometimes on key combinations or chomps away whole letters.

I'm a bit desperate, as I coveted this overhaul for a long time, and while the new processor is a blast, having such a terrible quality of life dip in the mouse/keyboard section is nerve-wracking.
