Hey All,

When I start up my machine sometimes I am not getting a signal to my BenQ monitor. I am using a DP cable to the monitor and a HDMI to my TV, which is outputting fine every startup.

I saw some things online regarding this issue, but it got rather technical so I wanted to start my own thread and get some thoughts from the community.

As stated this doesn't happen all the time, but it feels like if I leave my PC overnight off then the next morning turn it on the issue is there. If I restart the monitor seems to turn on fine or if I turn off my machine and then turn it back on in a couple of minutes its fine.

Has anyone had this issue?

I'm not sure! I didn't change anything in the monitor settings on the side of the panels. I simply plugged it into the new machine.

How would I be able to stop this resetting or be able to tell that it's "on"?

"Auto Power" is set to "off" just FYI.

Not sure as I don't have that monitor, but I use to have an LG and after every time my pc was shut down and the monitor went into stand by it always reverted back to DVI, have you tried using a different display adapter for the monitor?

Yes I use an HDMI cable to my TV and the DP cable to my monitor. I have a DVI cable so I think I may hook up with the DP cable and DVI cable and see when the DP doesn't work if the DVI works.

This issue is for 2/3 of my DP on my 1070. It sounds like the DP in these cards had issues with the HTC Vive, so maybe it is a bigger issue.

Could be, but its better to rule out the monitor being the issue. So use HDMI to the monitor? also do you have both cables plugged in at the same time?

My HDMI cable runs under my floor to my TV so it is plugged in all the time to the back on my PC. My DP cable is also plugged in at all times to the back of my monitor.

It would be rather tough to use the HDMI cable for the monitor as it is hooked up to the TV all the time.

I also feel like this has only been an issue in the last week, which is really odd. In something like this is it more likely the DP are all failing? That sounds a little extreme.

I wonder if the TV being plugged in is conflicting with the Monitor, could be that its trying to dual monitor?

Ok I see your point! How would I adjust that in my settings so that It DOES dual monitor? Is that what I want?

I only use my TV for Steam big picture so there is there a better set up than what I have? Right now in my display settings I have it set to "Extend these displays".

You would be best to unplug the cable you're not going to use at the time, as you would have to change that option every time : ) to display only on "monitor 1 or 2 "
I think that could be your issue.

Is my setup that complicated for my PC that I would need to do that? I only ask because that seems a little silly that my computer can't detect 2 monitors even though there are 3 display ports in the back on the video card.

Is there something special about having a PC plugged in vs a Monitor?

OK! When I play a game will the card have to work "double time" if one of the displays turned off? I don't want to play something graphically intensive and have the 1070 have to duplicate it and render the graphics twice.

I don't think it will work double time, but you may notice a performance decrease maybe some lower FPS ( won't damage any thing ). But I would just change the display you want to use when you boot up your PC.

So if I wanted to steam big picture on the TV launch the system under duplicate displays then move to the TV and switch it to display on the TV and then switch it to the monitor from there when I want to play/work on the monitor?

Yeah should be a good way to do it.

Ok I'm going to give it a go. It's only a small extra step, but I like playing on my TV for the comfort.

If I was running on dual monitors would I have this same problem? Is this only a problem because I was trying to "extend displays" with a monitor (the tv) that was turned off?

If you was running dual monitors depending on which config you were running would depend on how it came on, you would not have the same problem assuming you was going to be running both screens on at same time. Try turning your pc on with both displays on. But do change it deepening on preferred screen at time. This should sort the issue.

Thank you so much for your help and explanations. Its been an hour back and forth and I could not be more thankful.

I love having a solution, but to understand the process and why it likely wasn't working is MUCH more meaningful!!!! Thanks again!!!
