NOT TRUE AT ALL. WIFI will always be more susceptible to interference, and lag from other users. If you you can't use an ethernet cable, the next best alternative is usually powerline network adapters. Here is the Tom's 101 -- http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/network-switch-guide,4047.html The latest standard is AV2 MIMO. It should support 100Mbit + in almost all cases.

Unless you have a bad WiFi card that can't keep up with your upload and download speed of your router, it doesn't really matter if you're connected by cable or WiFi at this point. You'll get the same performance either way.

I have no issues with it. Laptop or desktop I get about the same performance on WiFi. 5GHz channel is handy, but same performance either band. He's gaming. That doesn't require a high bandwidth. I don't have a ping difference either. I'm sorry if I'm not correct, but that's what I've experienced first hand.
