My current setup is an AMD A10-5800K @ 4.3 GHz and a GTX 970. I'm pretty sure my CPU is bottlenecking my GPU, right?

Deciding I want to upgrade, I've given myself a budget of $500. I know it's not much and I'll have to make some compromises. I was at first going to go for this build: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/YTGF8K things like the motherboard and ram aren't finalized. The drawback to this is that I wouldn't be able to overclock my CPU and don't know if the added benefits if an i7 are worth an extra $100. I then slapped this build together: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/xcgPXH again the motherboard and ram aren't finalized. With this build I'd be overclocking the CPU some.

So, which do you think is better? Any advice on what parts I should get would be appreciated as well. If you can't already tell, I'm not super knowledgeable.

If I were in your shoes I would go with a locked i5 for under $350 and save that money for another day. For gaming you will notice very little difference between a stock i5, a stock i7, and an OC i5. Not enough to warrant the increase in cost IMO.
