We have a dell inspiron 530 with 4 gigs of memory. Windows 7, 64-bit. DDR2. Intel processor with integrated graphics. We have already upgraded the power supply and want to upgrade the motherboard and processor. We have made multiple attempts at installing different graphics cards so the boys can play DOTA 2 but have no luck. Once installed the computer monitor goes straight to power saving mode and will not come out of it. So, my teenage sons wants to learn how to build a new computer using the exisiting tower with the new NVIDA graphics card and power supply that we have. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Try add other one to see they will work together or not in different combinations. And you will need clear the COMS before boot the PC.
Keep in mind, if you want to upgrade the MB and cpu, you will buy other OS too, because you can't use the dell OEM win7 on the retail brand MB.

And if your boys want to just play DOTA 2, just use that dell PC, because you said you had the new GPU, so it can handle the games well. And for your GPU problem, you may just need to upgrade the MB BIOS, if the MB does not have the newer one.

And what are the new GPU and new PSU?

It has the newest BIOS. We even had a computer tech come to our house and he couldn't fins anything wrong with the computer.

The PSU is a EVGA 430 and the GPU is a NVIDIA EVGA 8400 GS. We had previously bought an NVIDIA 210 and tbought it was DOA since we had so much trouble with the monitor and tech guy couldn't figure out the issue. We even hooked it up to a HD tv and it still went to sleep mode.

Okay, so just got around to pulling all the memory but one stick, it worked! Computer monitor didn't go into sleep mode and dota2 launched. Now, what do I do about all my computers memory??? It currently just has 1GB and it took forever to start up!
