So is there gonna be a bottleneck if I decide to buy a gtx 970 (or a slightly less powerful older gpu such as the 770) ?

Here's my current setup if you are interested:
amd a10-7800 apu
gtx 650 ti (1gb non-boost model)
8gb ddr3 1600mhz
2tb hdd
corsair 430w psu
some random (fm2+ ?) mobo
win8.1

Thanks for anyone who cares enough to reply :)

Solution
Yes there will be a bottleneck, especially with the gtx 970, AMD's APU(s) are very weak for upper mid range gaming. I don't recommend this pairing at all unless you plan to upgrade your platform later on and move the gtx 970 to that platform. http:// Shown here it is bottlenecking even an HD 7950 (far weaker than a gtx 770, nevermind a 970) in Thief, compared to a Pentium G3258 and even more so against an FX 8350.

Would an i5 quad core be better if I could get my hands on one (was looking at used 4570 earlier).
Ofc i would have to upgrade my mobo aswell.

Where in that article do you see that they used a HD 7950 for their game tests. I was trying to look for which graphics card they used but I didn't see it. They could've used a high end video card substantially better than a 970. The only part I see the name of a graphics card is for the Open CL Rendering benchmark. In video games that don't utilize the cpu much(and most don't) the a10 will be fine, especially if you buy the 770.

Nice :)
Thanks for the help, will be looking into the cpu upgrade aswell then.
Does it really matter what motherboard i buy, as long as it's not garbage and fits the cpu?

That article was from August 2014, there was no card any superior to the gtx 970 at that time, the highest end card at that time was the gtx 780ti, which is right on par with the 970, Also if you look closely at the previous page you will see their test system which includes "Discrete graphics XFX Radeon HD 7950 Double Dissipation 3GB with Catalyst 14.6 beta drivers"

Your welcome! And yes choose whatever motherboard and core i5 cpu combo you want that is of high quality from a reliable vendor like Asus, Gigabyte, MSi, etc.... with only the features you believe you will need. Such as 4 slots of ram, # sata ports, etc...
