Aight Sorry if this is a lot, but I currently have 2 different laptop problems. Any help is much appreciated.

First off, I have an Acer Aspire V3. It has a AMD processor. Ive been using it for 2 and a half years now and the warranty has indeed expired. For the past 3 months, I have been noticing that the laptop tends to overheat after 4 to 5 hours of work and immediately shuts off. Whats more is that in the past week, the laptop won't hold up for more than an hour.

Now I have already done my research, I have watched a video on how to properly open my laptop without damaging anything and Clean the fan and also reset the CMOS, which I have done. But even after that, the laptop tends to overheat and shut off after a maximum of 3 to 4 hours. Mind you, I keep my laptop on with no process running, a stand to support air ventilation. Also when my laptop remained open, I had cleaned out any dust that was visible.

That was my first Problem, my second problem is my other laptop, a HP Notebook. Intel Pentium Dual core. Been using it for more than 3 years. Warranty ofc has already expired. For this laptop, some random times, the screen will simply go white, when it begins going white, I can see small pink yellow and blue lines in some areas then it completely goes white. To solve this problem, I usually put the lid down, wait 5 minutes and the screen is back to normal. Sometimes the white screen persists for around a day. It can't be a faulty HDD as I have replaced it already alongside my RAM and Graphics card. I haven't cleaned the inside of this laptop yet but it shouldn't be a dust problem since my laptop never overheats even for a laptop with such low specs.

Any help is appreciated, thank you!

Solution
1) Redo the thermal paste on the CPU for your Acer laptop. Also you may need another AC adapter as the voltage fail-safe has probably been tripped too many times. To verify, try and get it to shut off while on battery. If it does not, you will need a new AC adapter. If it does, redo the thermal paste (you still may need an AC adapter). You can monitor temps with free programs like realtemp

2) This sounds like an issue with your LCD screen. It may need to be replaced. If you feel comfortable doing so and it is not a touch screen, it should be cheap enough to be replaced.

If you want a lazy solution for the overheating pc, you can try to buy a pad with fans you put under the laptop and connect via USB, for the rest I say listen to the guy above.

Thermal Paste I have replaced just a while ago :p but the laptop still overheated and shut down. Even without the adapter it shuts down so the adapter is not the problem. Im currently monitoring my Laptop's temperature with SpeedFan. My Core temperature is topping at around 70 to 89 c. I cant change my fans speed as it does not detect my fan.... My HDD temperature it says is staying at 36C which I presume is good.

Id accept the second laptop's problem answered.

Since the thermal paste has already been replaced and the laptop is reaching 70-89C (which is not past the auto shutdown temperature) then there might be an issue with the motherboard (or more specifically the temp sensor). If the sensor is off/faulty it may be causing a pre-emptive shutdown.

As a last resort, you can try updating the BIOS to the latest version, or even revert it back to it's original version. That and a full reformat will let you know if the issue is with the motherboard or not.

Acer should have a link for the BIOS file on their website. You will need to search for your exact laptop model and series. New BIOS' can be updated via a program in Windows. Older ones need to have the file on a flash drive. For the latter you will need to boot into the BIOS and there is an option to update BIOS via files on a USB.

Is the fan constantly screaming? If not, temp sensor sounds probable. I have seen package temps get above core temps and cause throttling/shutdown. If the fan IS screaming and the laptop still shuts down, I would revisit thermal paste application with a different paste and more precise application (a small dot or line goes a long way! - too MUCH paste is a bad thing!)

Sorry for the delayed response. No the fan does not make any screaming noises at all. It works just like a normal fan. I haven't gamed on my laptop yet but it does not overheat anymore. Before it would overheat while being idle, but I left it overnight and throughout the day and it hasn't overheated yet. I have been monitoring the heat, and it seems to stay in a range of 40 to 70c

Thank you guys!
