hey there,

since my old computer is getting slower and slower (Core2Duo E6400 and Geforce 6600GT) after it made over 10 years, i have to get a new one.
I was looking a bit around and now got to this build:

The Tower is just a placeholder, not sure what to get. The rest are my actual favorites, besides 2 "do i really need it?"

The Build shall be able to support active gaming in the future (No VR planned, just simple 1 Monitor gaming, no streaming etc.), but also be nice and silence on low workload while doing office stuff, like writing papers etc.

So the 2 items i'm not sure about are:

Do i really need a 6600k, or is maybe the 6600/6500 enough, when going for a non K, i could exchange the Motherboard for a non Z170 one. I'm not sure if i need to OC. Could save some bucks.
The other one is the GPU. Is it for normal 1080 gaming on a standard 24 inch panel overkill? maybe going down to a GTX 1060? Could save also some bucks.

Anyone has some improvements?

Thanks in advance!

Best Regards

So i've got three options for you.
I've got a 1080p 60Hz build (60fps on very high settings mostly), a GTX 1070 build for maxing out stuff at 60Hz, and 1300 build with a 1070 and 144hz monitor for you to choose from.
Let me know your thoughts, i'll be on in 8 hours, going to sleep after posting this! :)
GTX 1060 build
PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i5-6500 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor (€203.79 @ Mindfactory)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-B150M-DS3H Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard (€73.10 @ Amazon Deutschland)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory (€61.99 @ Amazon Deutschland)
Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB...
some remarks:

- depending on the price go with the Cryorig H7 for a CPU cooler. I love the mugen, hell I own one but it takes away 1 RAM slot.
- if you want to OC is your soup to eat. but yes going for an 6600+a nice H170/B150 board is a good choice as well unless you need the features of the Z170 board in terms of expandability
- you went for one of the most expensive 1070s there are. If you're ordering from Germany get a Gainward GS or the Palit equivalent. they got the best cooling solution so far and for 80€ less.
a 1060 6GB is enough for gaming at 1080p as well. it depends on your needs. the 1070 will take longer to outdate, if you're a graphics fetishist who will upgrade the card in 2 years anyway, go with the 1060. also depending on your budget, go with the 1060.
- the PSU is not recommended. especially at that price the CSM offers little. go for a XFX XTR or a Seasonic M12 (as EVGA Supernovas are usually overpriced in Germany)
- concerning the tower: what are your needs? do you have lots of space or is size an issue? is it hot at your place or dusty? what kind of design do you prefer? do you need an optical drive? do you prefer something colourful or elegant? do you want something with a door covering the front or not? how much are you willing to spend on a case?

Thanks for the tons of answers! Appreciate it.

Lets see:
timeconsumer: Thank you for your thoughts, prolly i will go down to a non-k and a 1060. Thanks.

Isokolon:
-Just took a look at the cooler. The noise range is a bit smaller, but starts at a higher db. (10-25db Cryorig H7 vs. 5,3-28 db for the Mugen 4) But when is the cooler in the low cooling procedure and when does it start turning up? I have no idea. And since i go for 2 ram sticks, there isn't a problem if i loose one from the 4 slots, or is it? No idea either.

-Prolly going for the 6500 or 6600 non-k with a nice h170/b170 board. Since I will prolly going for the 1060 (see next point) there will never be the option to go SLI, so no need for a SLI-Board.

-The GPU is one of the biggest questions mark i have atm. my old system is as bought as 10 years ago, and i dont need games on ultra high quality. Well ofcourse i will go on those games i am currently playing , just to see how they look after playing them on ultra low for the past years. But i dont need top of the class benchmarks, Saving now 50% of the price and i could go for a 1260 (or however nvidia will name the generation after the next gen) and have still nearly spent the same amount of money over 4yrs but got a better GPU then going for a 1070 now.

- I think you mean this? http://de.pcpartpicker.com/product/Rkh9TW/xfx-power-supply-p1550bbefx Thanks. I wanted to go a Gold, but after reading some articles this certifications is more like a farce, when the manufacturer just sends a golden sample there and sells the PSU with cheaper components later? 550w should be enough?!

-Tower:
Space: Is not that problem, but i would prefer a midi tower.
Heat / Dust: Yesterday Bilbo Baggins passed by and ask if he could throw a ring into my room. On hot summer days there are likely 45° C in my room, but this is like 4 times a year (and then the chances that i sit in front of the pc are much lower), so yes it can get hot, but mostly under 30°C.
Dusty, yes it is. Even with vacuum the place every week, my old tower is soaked with dust balls.
Design: Black, Simple/elegant, no door (probably will forget to close it, run against it and break it), no window, insulation would be great, optical drive needed. Front USB would be a + too.
Price: ~100€

You mentioned ordering from germany is expensive. What do you recommend? Is it better to order from the UK? The EUR is not that strong atm, but the GBP lost a bit of value the past couple of months, and it should be import tax free?! . EUR/USD is at a low, but even with the prices ~10% under the german prices (EUR/USD Price 1:1) + ~10% through the exchange rate i could safe 20% on the listed prices. But is it worth? Are all parts identical? The shipping costs (could order over my cousin living in the US), + taxes should nearly cut the savings to 5%. And warranty have to be done over the US, so sending back etc. i dont think it's worth the effort?

ComputersecurityGuy:

Thank you for your recommendations.

Chugalug:
Thanks for sharing those 3 builds.
Is the 850 EVO really 30€ more worth then the 750 EVO from my build?
Your RAM is a bit slower (2800 vs 2133 mhz and cl 16 vs cl 13) - is it not worth investing 20€ more for the faster kit?
Additional HDD, i think i just take the old one from my current setup and swap it on christmas,
GPU: i think i'm gonna stick to the zotac 1060, even so the gpu seems to get a bit hot?
case: See above.
PSU: See above.

After considering your thoughts I upgraded my build to this:

Changing the RAM from Chuglug_, after looking at the merchants the price was @8x EUR for the CL 13 Module. Seems a bit high and the PCpartpicker price aint correct?
Took Isokolons cooler, somehow there he is stated with 1-25 dB and not 10-25, but on the cryorig site its 10-25 dB.
I'm not happy with the Mobo, it only supports the 2133 Mhz RAM; but do you even feel the difference while playing and NOT benchmarking to a 2800 Mhz Module?
GPU is fine.
PSU from Isokolon
Case still missing.
But would end up under 1.000 EUR with those specs.

Any last thoughts?

And thanks again guys! Pretty fast and competent answers. Love it.

Best Regards!

you most likely won't feel the difference between 2133MHz and 2800MHz. also the difference probably ain't worth paying that much extra for a nice Z170 board
the Cryorig starts @10dba. anything up to 20dba is virtually unaudible. up to 25dba is still quietish. anything around 30dba depends on your room. keep in mind that the dba scale ain't linear.

as for a cheap, elegant case with good airflow I recommend
Fractal Design R5
Thermaltake F31/F51
Bequiet Silent Base 600

they are all around 70-110€ depending on the retailer and your location
there are cheaper cases out there but personally having owned a cheap case prior, investing a few bucks more in a nice case is the way to go if you can afford it as you never will have to buy another case again mostly
the XTR is a very nice PSU. concerning Germany, when I was looking for PSUs for myself I checked the EVGA Supernova as you can get them at a very reasonable price in the US and anywhere in the world apart from continental Europe it seems. but if you find a nice Supernova GS/G2 that's a few bucks cheaper, go for it. From my experience the XFX XTR is the cheapest modular quality unit you can get in Germany/Austria/LUX/NL/Switzerland

Okay got a problem, due to some work overload i wasn't able to place my order, but now i saw that i have to chance to get a cryorig h7 here in germany
Only shipper in UK doesnt deliver to EU Mainland :(
Any other opinions on that cooler?

Ditto, the NH-D12 might be a lil overkill though! :)
I recommend the Be Quiet! Pure rock, and the 6600 isn't worth the price increase from the 6500 really, there is an extremely minimal increase in performance.
In my testing the Zotac Amp! sits around 70c under gaming load, which is quite good.
It should be an issue unless you put synthetic load on it, but even then you can choose to up the fan profile if needed and it will still be very quiet. Great cooler.
