The motherboard I'm looking at supports 3200 MHz RAM, but it has the little "(OC)" next to it. If I get Corsair Dominator Platinum 3200 MHz RAM, will it work, or is there some kind of overclocking I'll have to do? I still don't really understand how this kind of thing works.

Solution
The OC indicates you may need an OC of the CPU (specifically the MC (memory controller)) to run at full 3200, some CPUs can carry 3200 at stock while other CPUs can't. In part it comes down to the silicaon lottery, i.e. some 6600Ks can carry 3200 while others need voltage adjustments or even the CPU oced a bit. My 6600K can carry 16GB of 3200 at stock, but needs a bit of an OC to run 32GB or more

So even if I buy RAM that is advertised as 3200 MHz, I'll still have to change it to that manually?

Do you know offhand if the i7-6700K will carry 16GB of 3200 at stock?
